About Helen

I have been involved with animals most of my life particularly dogs and horses. I bought my first show Basset Hound in 1982 and hence the beginning of my love affair with showing, breeding, trialing and competing with my dogs. I have been a member of Dogs NSW since 1984. Today I have Australian Kelpies and Working Kelpies and compete in a range of performance dog sports, including agility, herding and dog dancing. My husband and I have also been involved in horse harness racing and currently breed thoroughbreds and having had some success at the track! I originally qualified and worked as an Occupational Therapist in medical rehabilitation and community health settings for a number of years and in areas of people development and performance. In 2006 I moved into the area of animal natural therapies. Since that time I have worked with a range of domestic animals including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, birds and guinea pigs.I have also been involved in supporting the rehabilitation of wildlife through WIRES and also more recently in the application of homeopathy with animals at Taronga Zoo. Bowen and Kinesiology services are available to the handlers/riders/trainers of the animals that come to my practice. I also currently teach and instruct for SmartBowen International Training College in the equine and small animal programs.

In my work I use a combination of modalities based on a physical, emotional and mental assessment of the animal and the presenting issues. My philosophy is to work for the wellbeing of the animal and to engage in a team approach with the owner/handler, your veterinarian, other heath care provider or animal trainer. Animal Equilibrium does not dispense veterinary advice, diagnosis or prescriptions. Whenever a person feels that they require veterinary advice, I encourage the person to seek such advice from their veterinarian as soon as practical. There may also be situations where I require the owner to seek veterinary attention and advice in the first instance before a consultation with myself. With all of my services /consultations you as your animals caretaker , are encouraged to be an active partner by assisting in the wellness program and by learning, practicing and keeping records of your animal’s behaviour, physical responses and progress
