I had the pleasure of attending the Finnish Lapphund Club of Victoria breed specialty in November for the first time, under Finnish breed specialist Saara Sampakoski.

Melbourne turned on the perfect weather for the Lappies, the air was cold and crisp. No so much for handlers and spectators. Donning multiple layers and The boys were up first, taking their turns in the ring, Melbourne once again showed us it’s many seasons as it began to rain, this didn’t dampen any spirits. After lunch saw the girls get their turn to shine as the sun was out, they all strutted their stuff around the ring. Next the battle for Best in show, winners decided it was time for some fun classes.

The Australia cup! A team of 4 dogs from Victoria and New South Wales run off against each other to see who will be victorious on the day.

Congratulations to New South Wales once again taking out the Australia Cup for the second year in a row. Thank you to Victoria for some fierce competition.

As the day drew to a close, gazebos where packed up, exhibitors discussed their wins and the results. The atmosphere was relaxed.

Exhibitors huddled into the lecture ears pricked to hear what the judge thought of our breed. Reports where good. She was very impressed and surprised by the quality of the Lappies presented to her on the day. Her lecture was informative and concise. All should be very proud of our wonderful breed and the future it holds in Australia.
